Bengaluru-based Slice Small Finance Bank has appointed its founder, Rajan Bajaj, as the new Managing Director and CEO, following approvals from the RBI, board, and shareholders. The move signals the bank’s continued focus on digital-first banking and expanding access to financial services across India.

A Journey from Startup to Regulated Bank

Bajaj, an IIT Kharagpur graduate, started Slice in 2016 as a fintech company serving young and underserved customers with innovative credit and payment products. The startup grew rapidly, and in 2024, it merged with North East Small Finance Bank, officially becoming a licensed small finance bank. Bajaj previously held the role of Executive Director and now succeeds Satish Kumar Kalra.

Slice SFB has attracted significant backing, raising over $250 million from global investors such as:

The bank offers a suite of digital financial products, including savings accounts with daily interest, fixed deposits, UPI services, lending solutions, and India’s first UPI-led branch.

Driving Technology and Inclusion

Under Bajaj, Slice SFB plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its operations to provide personalized banking experiences efficiently. He has highlighted the untapped opportunities in India’s financial sector and aims to use technology to extend services to more people at lower costs.

Industry experts note that Bajaj’s leadership could accelerate the bank’s growth while promoting financial inclusion, particularly in rural and underserved regions.
