PhonePe has introduced an AI-powered natural language search feature developed on Microsoft Foundry, allowing users to make payments, recharge FASTag, and track transactions through simple voice or text commands. The new capability aims to improve privacy, personalization, and overall convenience in digital payments across India.

PhonePe announced the feature on February 23, 2026, marking a shift from traditional menu-based navigation to an intent-driven, conversational experience. Instead of manually browsing through app sections, users can now interact with the platform using everyday language, making digital transactions faster and more intuitive.

How the AI-Powered Natural Language Search Works

The new feature replaces button-based navigation with intelligent intent recognition. Users can type or speak commands, and the app automatically understands and executes the requested action.

For example:

• “Pay Hemanth 20 rupees” – Opens the payment screen with the contact already selected

• “Recharge FASTag” – Takes users directly to the recharge section

• “Gold price” – Displays real-time gold rates

This conversational interface simplifies navigation and minimizes the need to manually search through multiple menus.

Built on Microsoft Foundry for Secure AI Performance

The technology is powered by Microsoft Foundry, which provides advanced natural language processing capabilities while maintaining strong data protection standards.

Key technical features include:

• Hybrid AI architecture combining on-device processing and cloud inferencing

• Privacy-first design ensuring personal and transaction data remain within the PhonePe ecosystem

• Secure and scalable infrastructure

• High-performance AI processing without compromising user security

Moving Beyond a Transactional App

According to PhonePe Founder and CTO Rahul Chari, the launch represents a transition toward a more intelligent and user-focused platform. He highlighted that modern payment apps should anticipate user needs rather than simply process transactions.
