Brief History

Ghaziabad was founded in 1740 by Ghazi-ud-Din Firoz Jung, a minister in the Mughal court, who built a fort and sarai (rest house), remnants of which still exist today. Originally named Ghaziuddin Nagar, it was later shortened to Ghaziabad. Until 1976, it was a tehsil of Meerut district before becoming a separate district and rapidly developing into a major industrial hub.
