Description

Vidarbha scripted a historic moment in Indian domestic cricket by winning their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy, defeating Saurashtra by 38 runs in the 2026 final at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The victory marked Vidarbha’s first title in India’s premier domestic one-day competition and highlighted their steady rise in limited-overs cricket.

Batting first, Vidarbha produced a strong total, built around a superb century by opener Atharva Taide, who scored a fluent 128 runs. Showing maturity and composure in a high-pressure final, Taide anchored the innings after negotiating the new ball and gradually accelerated, providing his team with a solid foundation and helping them post a challenging target of 317 runs.

In reply, Saurashtra fought hard in the chase, with Prerak Mankad scoring 88 and Chirag Jani contributing 64 to keep their side in contention. Their fifth-wicket partnership briefly revived hopes of a comeback, but the dismissal of Mankad shifted the momentum back in Vidarbha’s favour. The fall of Jani soon after further increased the required run rate, making the chase difficult.

Vidarbha’s disciplined bowling attack ensured there was no late drama. Yash Thakur led the way with four wickets, while Nachiket Bhute and Darshan Nalkande provided crucial support. Saurashtra were eventually bowled out for 279 in 48.5 overs, sealing a convincing 38-run win and confirming Vidarbha’s first-ever Vijay Hazare Trophy triumph.
