The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has deferred the application schedule for the RRB Group D Recruitment 2026, which aims to fill nearly 22,000 vacancies across different railway zones and departments. As per the updated timeline, the online application process will now commence on January 31, 2026, instead of the previously announced January 21, 2026.
According to the revised schedule, candidates can submit their online applications up to 11:59 PM on March 2, 2026. The recruitment is being conducted under Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 09/2025, and applications will be accepted only through the official portal.
Updated Application Timeline and Aadhaar Instructions
RRB has urged applicants to ensure that their Aadhaar details are accurate and up to date before filling out the application form. The name and date of birth on the Aadhaar card must exactly match the details mentioned in the Class 10 certificate. Candidates are also advised to update their recent photograph and biometric data, including fingerprints and iris scans, in Aadhaar records.
The board has warned that applications not verified through Aadhaar may face delays or additional verification procedures during the recruitment process.
Department-wise Vacancy Details
Out of the total 22,000 Group D vacancies, the Engineering Department accounts for the largest share with around 12,500 posts. The Track Maintainer Grade-IV role alone includes approximately 11,000 vacancies.

Eligibility Criteria, Age Limit, and Selection Procedure
For RRB Group D 2026, the minimum age requirement is 18 years and the maximum is 33 years. Age relaxation is applicable as per government norms:
OBC candidates – 3 years
SC/ST candidates – 5 years
The short notice has not clearly specified the educational qualification, leading to uncertainty among candidates regarding the requirement of ITI or Class 10 pass credentials.
The selection process will include a Computer Based Test (CBT) followed by a Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The CBT will be 90 minutes long, consisting of 100 questions, with a negative marking of one-third marks for each incorrect answer. Candidates shortlisted at three times the number of vacancies will be called for PET, after which document verification and medical examination will be conducted.
Application Guidelines, Fee Structure, and Salary
Applicants are permitted to apply for only one RRB. Submitting multiple applications for different railways will result in disqualification. However, candidates may choose multiple posts within the same railway using a single application form.
The application fee is Rs 500 for General, OBC, and EWS candidates, out of which Rs 400 will be refunded after appearing for the CBT. Candidates selected under Group D posts will be placed in Level-1 of the pay matrix, with a basic salary of Rs 18,000 per month.
