Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday inaugurated the mobile cancer screening unit, ‘Asha Van’, in Gandhinagar, aimed at facilitating early detection and diagnosis of cancer. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance preventive healthcare, particularly in rural and underserved areas of the state.

State-of-the-Art Mobile Diagnostic Facility

The Asha Van is outfitted with advanced medical technology, including EVA-Pro diagnostics, a mammography unit, and teleconsultation capabilities. It can screen and diagnose multiple life-threatening conditions on-site, such as lung, oral, blood, cervical, pancreatic, liver, breast, and prostate cancers, allowing for timely intervention and treatment.

Strengthening Rural Healthcare and Preventive Medicine

Designed to operate anywhere, the mobile unit brings specialized cancer screening to locations beyond urban centers. Chief Minister Patel emphasized that early detection through initiatives like this can save lives and help patients resume normal life with appropriate care. The project supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Health and Wellness for All”, with a focus on rural outreach.

Collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society

During the inauguration, CM Patel handed over the Asha Van to the Bhavnagar branch of the Indian Red Cross Society for public service. Capable of screening 10 types of cancer, the van will be deployed across communities to maximize coverage. Representatives from Genwork Pharma and Red Cross officials attended the event.

Public Health Impact and Future Benefits

Sharing the launch on social media, the Chief Minister highlighted that advances in medical science now make early cancer detection highly effective. He noted that Asha Vans will play a crucial role in expanding cancer screening services in rural areas, reducing diagnostic delays, and strengthening Gujarat’s public health infrastructure.
