The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has published the first provisional seat allotment list for CLAT 2026 counselling. Candidates who have registered for counselling can now check their seat allotment status on the official website.
This initial allotment is a key step in the CLAT 2026 admission process, determining the preliminary allocation of seats in National Law Universities for both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programmes.
What the First Provisional Seat Allotment Means
The first provisional list indicates the seats allotted to candidates for five-year integrated UG law programmes and PG law programmes. The allotment is based on the candidate’s CLAT 2026 rank, submitted preferences, and the availability of seats. Being provisional, these allotments are subject to subsequent rounds of counselling.
Candidates allotted a seat in this round must act within the prescribed timeline to confirm, modify, or relinquish their allotment.
Options for Allotted Candidates
Candidates who have received a seat can choose one of the following options:
Freeze: Accept the allotted seat and opt out of further rounds.
Float: Accept the allotted seat but remain eligible for higher-preference options in the next counselling rounds.
Exit: Decline the seat and withdraw from CLAT 2026 counselling.
Candidates choosing Freeze or Float must pay a non-refundable counselling confirmation fee of ?20,000 to confirm their seat.
