The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) awarded the IFFCO Sahitya Samman 2025 to renowned Hindi author Maitreyi Pushpa in recognition of her exceptional contribution to Hindi literature, particularly her insightful portrayal of rural life and agrarian issues. The award ceremony was held in New Delhi, underscoring IFFCO’s commitment to promoting literature rooted in India’s villages.

Celebrating Rural-Centric Hindi Literature

Established in 2011, the IFFCO Sahitya Samman honours a Hindi writer whose work meaningfully reflects rural and agricultural life. The award carries a citation, a memento, and a cash prize of Rs 11 lakh. Past recipients include notable literary figures such as Vidyasagar Nautiyal, Shekhar Joshi, Sanjeev, Mithileshwar, Shivmurti, Madhu Kankaria, and Jayanandan.

Maitreyi Pushpa’s Literary Achievements

Born on 30 November 1944 in Sikurra village, Aligarh district, Maitreyi Pushpa grew up in Khilli village near Jhansi. She earned a master’s degree in Hindi literature from Bundelkhand College, Jhansi. Her prolific body of work includes novels, short stories, poetry, plays, memoirs, autobiographical writings, and reportage, often focusing on women’s experiences and rural realities in Bundelkhand. Her writings are celebrated for their social awareness, authenticity, and depth of insight into village life.

IFFCO Young Literary Award 2025

During the same event, the IFFCO Young Literary Award 2025 was presented to Ankita Jain for her book “Oh Re! Kisan”. Ankita Jain, who began her career as a research associate and assistant professor, later became a full-time writer. Her debut book “Aisi Vaisi Aurat” became a Jagran–Nielsen bestseller, followed by works like “Main Se Maa Tak”, “Baheliye”, “Mohalla Salimbagh”, and the children’s novel “Aatanki Mor”.

Ceremony Highlights

The awards were presented by IFFCO Chairman Dilip Sanghani, who praised the achievements of both writers, while Managing Director K. J. Patel lauded Maitreyi Pushpa for her visionary social commentary. The event also featured a theatrical adaptation of Pushpa’s story “Gunahgar” by the Flying Feathers Art Association and was attended by writers, teachers, students, and literature enthusiasts.
