Oman has awarded its highest civilian honour to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking an important milestone in India–Gulf diplomatic relations. The recognition was conferred during PM Modi’s official visit to the Sultanate and reflects the strengthening strategic, economic, and cultural engagement between the two countries. With this accolade, PM Modi has now received 29 international honours, highlighting his growing global recognition.

Order of Oman: A Prestigious Global Honour

Prime Minister Modi was bestowed with the First Class of the Order of Oman, the Sultanate’s most distinguished national award. This honour is traditionally reserved for prominent global leaders and personalities who have made notable contributions to Oman’s international relations. Distinguished past recipients include Queen Elizabeth II, Nelson Mandela, Emperor Akihito of Japan, and King Abdullah II of Jordan. Trade Agreement Marks Economic Progress

The honour coincided with the finalisation of a long-awaited Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Oman. Signed in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and Oman’s leadership, the agreement represents a major advancement in bilateral economic relations. The CEPA aims to lower trade barriers, expand duty-free access for Indian exports including textiles, chemicals, and engineering products, and promote Indian investments in Oman’s industrial and logistics sectors.

Part of a Wider Diplomatic Engagement

PM Modi’s visit to Oman concluded his three-nation tour that also included Jordan and Ethiopia. The tour highlighted India’s expanding diplomatic footprint across West Asia and Africa, with a strong emphasis on economic collaboration, strategic cooperation, and engagement with the Global South.
