Description
India celebrated a strong showing at the Odisha Masters in Cuttack as Unnati Hooda and Kiran George clinched the women’s and men’s singles titles respectively. The BWF Super 100 tournament showcased intense competition, with foreign players claiming victories in the doubles categories.
Unnati Hooda Triumphs in Women’s Singles
Top seed Unnati Hooda dominated the women’s singles final, defeating Isharani Baruah in straight games, 21-17, 21-10, in just over 30 minutes. After an evenly contested first game, Hooda capitalised on her opponent’s mistakes to gain control. In the second game, her precise court placement and calm temperament proved decisive as Baruah struggled to keep up with the pace.
Third Super 100 Title for Hooda
The victory marked Hooda’s third BWF Super 100 title, adding to her earlier triumph at the 2022 Odisha Masters. It was her only title this year, rounding off a season that included semifinal finishes at the Taipei Open and Hylo Open. Her standout performance came at the China Open, where she defeated PV Sindhu, becoming the youngest Indian woman to reach a Super 1000 quarterfinal.
Kiran George Wins Men’s Singles
In the men’s singles final, second seed Kiran George secured the title after a competitive three-game match against Indonesia’s Muhamad Yusuf, winning 21-14, 13-21, 21-16 in just over an hour. After dropping the second game, George intensified his play in the decider, stringing together key points to clinch the title convincingly.
Doubles Titles Go to Indonesia and Bulgaria
The doubles events were dominated by international pairs. Indonesia’s Marwan Faza and Aisyah Pranata won the mixed doubles, while compatriots Ali Faathir Rayhan and Devin Artha Wahyudi claimed the men’s doubles title. In women’s doubles, Bulgaria’s Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva defeated the Malaysian pair in straight games to lift the trophy.
