Originating over the southwest Indian Ocean near Indonesia, Cyclone Bakung has intensified, with sustained wind speeds surpassing 60 kmph. Weather authorities have issued advisories for strong winds along the south Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar, and adjacent sea regions. Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into rough waters. Although heavy rainfall is not expected in most areas, agencies continue to monitor the cyclone closely, as its indirect effects are likely to influence South India’s weather over the next several days.
