Description
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to proactively reclaim long-forgotten financial assets through the nationwide initiative ‘Your Money, Your Right’. The campaign reinforces the government’s focus on financial accountability and seeks to return dormant funds to their rightful owners.
National Call for Financial Awareness
The initiative motivates people to identify and retrieve unclaimed deposits, insurance payouts, mutual fund balances and outstanding dividends. The Prime Minister described the movement as a collective step toward a more inclusive financial ecosystem, encouraging citizens to turn inactive assets into valuable financial opportunities.
Huge Volume of Unclaimed Funds
Recent data reveals the vast pool of unclaimed money across various financial sectors. Banks hold tens of thousands of crores in inactive deposits, insurance companies retain large unpaid proceeds, and mutual funds and dividend accounts also contain substantial unclaimed amounts. These figures reflect years of saved, hard-earned money left untouched by families nationwide.
User-Friendly Digital Platforms
To simplify the claims process, several digital portals have been launched. The UDGAM Portal helps users locate unclaimed bank deposits, Bima Bharosa supports insurance-related claims, and the MITRA Portal provides details for mutual fund accounts. Dividend claims can be filed through the IEPFA Portal under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Authorities are also conducting district-level camps to help citizens verify records and recover funds, ensuring the campaign’s reach extends to rural and remote regions. People are encouraged to review their family’s financial documents and use official portals to retrieve money that rightfully belongs to them, thereby strengthening financial inclusion throughout the country.
