Google has officially announced that its first AI-powered smart glasses will launch in 2026, marking a major step forward for its expanding Android XR ecosystem. Revealed during The Android Show: XR Edition, these upcoming glasses aim to deliver hands-free support, instant information access and a stylish, all-day wearable design.

Two AI Smart Glasses Models

Google is developing two versions of the glasses in collaboration with Samsung, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

• Model 1: A display-free design that uses built-in speakers, microphones and cameras to let users interact naturally with Gemini, take photos and get contextual assistance.

• Model 2: A version with an in-lens display that offers private visual overlays such as navigation guidance and real-time translation captions.

Designed for Everyday Use

These glasses are created to fit effortlessly into daily life. Users can ask questions about what they see, retrieve information quickly and communicate more effectively using real-time translation tools. The hands-free format makes the device useful for both personal and professional tasks.

Strengthening the Android XR Ecosystem

The smart glasses are part of Google’s broader push to grow its XR hardware lineup, which already includes the Samsung Galaxy XR headset and future devices like XREAL’s Project Aura. To support developers, Google has released Developer Preview 3 of the Android XR SDK, enabling early app development. Companies such as Uber and GetYourGuide are already experimenting with augmented features.
