Rewari Junction is located on the busy Delhi–Ajmer–Ahmedabad route and serves as a major junction with six main railway lines branching out. Its connectivity makes it one of Haryana’s busiest stations, linking important cities and facilitating smooth passenger and goods transport.
Location and Connectivity
Situated roughly 82 km southwest of Old Delhi and around 76 km from New Delhi’s main airport, Rewari Junction provides direct access to cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, and Bhatinda. Its strategic position makes it an essential transit point for both passengers and freight movement.
Historical Significance
The station was established in 1873 following the construction of the first metre-gauge railway line from Delhi to Rewari by the Rajputana State Railway in 1872. Over time, the network expanded to Ajmer and Ahmedabad, increasing Rewari’s importance. Additional lines were built: to Bhatinda in 1884, Bikaner in 1896, and Phulera in 1905, cementing Rewari’s role as a crucial railway hub in northern India.
Future Plans
Rewari Junction is set for upgrades and expansion, with several initiatives in the pipeline:
Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS): A planned high-speed rail link connecting Delhi and Alwar, passing through Rewari.
Seventh Railway Line: A proposed 66 km route from Rewari to Palwal, part of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.
Western Dedicated Freight Corridor: Rewari will be a key station on this 1,521 km freight corridor, enhancing cargo transport across the country.
