Description
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have named Malolan Rangarajan, former Tamil Nadu all-rounder and long-time member of the RCB support staff, as the head coach of the women’s team ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season. His appointment reflects the franchise’s vision to strengthen its leadership core and sustain its winning momentum following recent success.
RCB’s Strategic Leadership Transition
Malolan takes over from Luke Williams, who guided RCB Women to their historic first WPL title in 2024. Having been associated with the franchise for over six years in roles such as assistant coach and head of scouting, he brings a deep understanding of the team’s culture and player dynamics. The move underscores RCB’s emphasis on nurturing leadership from within and maintaining stability in its coaching structure.
About Malolan Rangarajan
Born in Chennai, Malolan Rangarajan is a former Indian domestic cricketer who represented Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and South Zone. A right-arm off-spinner and capable lower-order batter, he played 47 first-class matches, taking 136 wickets and scoring 1,379 runs at an average of 28.14. Known for his cricketing intelligence and adaptability, he transitioned seamlessly into coaching and talent management after retiring from professional cricket in 2019.
His Journey With RCB
Post-retirement, Rangarajan became a key part of RCB’s scouting and talent development department, where he led initiatives to discover emerging talent from across India. He was instrumental in shaping the team’s data-driven player recruitment strategies and helped identify promising domestic players. His expertise in player evaluation, analytics, and team composition will be crucial as RCB prepares for the WPL 2026 mega auction.
Looking Ahead To WPL 2026
Excited about his new role, Rangarajan expressed his intent to build upon RCB’s success and strengthen partnerships with key players like Smriti Mandhana. The WPL 2026 season is set to begin in February 2026, earlier than usual, due to India co-hosting the Men’s T20 World Cup. Under Rangarajan’s guidance, RCB Women aim to continue their championship form and usher in a new chapter of sustained excellence and strategic innovation.
