In a major infrastructure development for Uttar Pradesh, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved the six-laning of National Highway-24 (NH-24) between Lucknow and Sitapur. This strategic expansion aims to decongest one of the state’s busiest routes, reduce travel time, and improve regional connectivity across central Uttar Pradesh.

Faster And Safer Commute

The 80–90 km stretch between Lucknow and Sitapur currently takes around two to two and a half hours due to heavy traffic and frequent bottlenecks. Once the highway is widened to six lanes, the journey is expected to take only 60–90 minutes, providing significant relief to daily commuters, transporters, and long-distance travelers.

Enhanced Connectivity Across Key Districts

The project, known as the Vigyan Path Corridor, will strengthen road links between Lucknow, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, and Barabanki. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) also plans to integrate this corridor into the State Capital Region (SCR) framework, fostering coordinated urban growth and economic activity throughout central Uttar Pradesh.

Project Details And Timeline

According to NHAI officials, the expansion will proceed without any additional land acquisition, as the existing right-of-way is sufficient. This will help reduce costs and expedite construction. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is nearing completion, and the construction phase is expected to begin soon. Once work commences, the project is anticipated to be finished within 12 to 18 months.

NH-24 currently handles over 40,000 vehicles daily, far exceeding its original capacity. The rapid rise in traffic over the past 15 years has led to frequent congestion and higher accident rates. Experts have emphasized that upgrading the corridor is essential to ensure traffic safety and efficient mobility in the coming years.
