Description
Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw scripted history with a breathtaking 141-ball double century against Chandigarh in the on-going Ranji Trophy, etching his name among the fastest double-centurions in the tournament’s 91-year history. His sensational knock not only lifted Maharashtra’s second-innings total but also reignited memories of his explosive stroke play that has dazzled Indian cricket fans for years.
Record-Breaking Knock Against Chandigarh
The right-handed opener was at his attacking best, reaching his century in just 72 balls before converting it into a double hundred off 141 deliveries, making it the third-fastest double century in Ranji Trophy history. Shaw’s blazing innings finally ended at 222 runs from 156 balls, studded with 29 boundaries and five towering sixes. Thanks to his remarkable effort, Maharashtra raced to 348/3 in just 50.2 overs, taking complete command of the match.
Joining an Elite List
With this monumental performance, Shaw joined an exclusive club of batters who have achieved lightning-fast double centuries in Ranji history. The record remains with Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal, who smashed a double ton in just 119 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in 2024. He is followed by Ravi Shastri, who achieved the feat in 123 balls for Mumbai against Baroda in 1985. Shaw now sits third on the list, surpassing Rahul Singh (143 balls, 2024) and Snehal Kauthankar (146 balls, 2024).
A Flourishing Domestic Career
Since his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai in 2017 against Tamil Nadu, Shaw has been one of the most consistent and explosive players in the domestic circuit. In 56 first-class matches, he has accumulated 4,631 runs in 104 innings at an average of 45.85, including 13 centuries and 19 fifties. His career-best score of 379 remains the second-highest individual total in Ranji Trophy history, only behind B.B. Nimbalkar’s 443.
