Description
In a major step to boost India’s healthcare quality standards, the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) has introduced a Medical Application Portal for laboratories seeking accreditation under ISO 15189:2022. The platform, officially unveiled during the virtual event “GOING LIVE” on August 19, 2025, is aimed at making the lab accreditation process more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly.
ISO 15189:2022 – Setting Global Standards For Medical Labs
ISO 15189:2022 is an international benchmark that outlines the competence and quality requirements for medical laboratories. Accreditation under this standard ensures accuracy, reliability, and safety in diagnostic testing, which is vital for strengthening India’s healthcare system.
By moving to a digital framework, NABL intends to speed up approvals, reduce manual errors, and ensure stronger compliance across medical laboratories nationwide.
Key Features Of New NABL Portal
The revamped Medical Application Portal has been designed to mirror real laboratory workflows. Some of its notable upgrades include:
Simplified application process with easy form-filling and status monitoring.
Predefined document templates to reduce confusion and errors.
Pre-registration checklist for better readiness assessment.
User-friendly dashboard with intuitive navigation.
Multi-user login option, allowing lab managers, quality officers, and other personnel to access the system securely.
According to QCI Chairperson Shri Jaxay Shah, tasks that earlier consumed weeks or months can now be completed in just 2–3 hours using this platform.
Benefits For Labs And Healthcare Ecosystem
The new system is expected to deliver multiple benefits:
Faster Approvals: Accelerates the accreditation cycle for medical labs.
Enhanced Transparency: Real-time updates allow applicants to track progress at every stage.
Improved Accountability: Multi-user access enables better internal checks and documentation control.
Reduced Costs: Digital processing lowers administrative and operational expenses.
Wider Accessibility: Labs across India can apply without depending on regional offices.
By streamlining accreditation, the initiative will enable more laboratories to achieve ISO standards, thereby strengthening diagnostic accuracy and improving patient outcomes nationwide.
