Description

President Droupadi Murmu has inaugurated three newly developed sections of Amrit Udyan at Rashtrapati Bhavan — the Plumeria Garden, Banyan Grove, and Babbling Brook. These thoughtfully designed landscapes enrich the cultural, ecological, and aesthetic legacy of the Presidential Estate, while also introducing innovative elements that encourage wellness, sustainability, and deeper public interaction with nature.

Exploring New Additions To Amrit Udyan

Plumeria Garden

The Plumeria Garden adds a refreshing and tranquil touch to the Udyan complex. Designed with gently rolling grass mounds and carefully curated plantations, the garden provides a space for peace, relaxation, and reflection. Plumeria flowers, known for their fragrance and symbolic association with purity, enhance the atmosphere of serenity. The layout reflects the essence of traditional Indian garden design, where harmony between nature and visitors is the central theme.

Banyan Grove

The Banyan Grove stands out as a wellness-focused addition, integrating nature therapy into its design. This section includes:

  • Reflexology paths for barefoot walking, believed to stimulate pressure points and improve circulation.

  • Panchtatva trails, symbolizing the five fundamental elements of nature—earth, water, fire, air, and space.

  • Forest-inspired soundscapes, which immerse visitors in natural rhythms and create a meditative atmosphere.

Together, these features encourage mindfulness and physical well-being, aligning with holistic traditions of health and balance.

Babbling Brook

The Babbling Brook introduces a water-based landscape to Amrit Udyan, combining visual beauty with sensory stimulation. Highlights include:

  • Naturalistic cascades that mimic the flow of mountain streams.

  • Sculptural water spouts designed to enhance the garden’s artistry.

  • Stepping stones across the water, inviting visitors to interact with the brook.

This section creates an environment of calm and movement, balancing sound and sight to offer visitors a soothing natural retreat.

Public Access To Gardens

The newly inaugurated gardens have been opened to the public as part of Amrit Udyan’s seasonal access, which will continue until 14 September 2025. Visitors can now experience these innovations alongside the iconic Mughal Gardens, exploring spaces that blend historical charm with modern ecological and wellness concepts.

Significance Of Inauguration

The addition of Plumeria Garden, Banyan Grove, and Babbling Brook represents more than just landscaping—it reflects a shift towards people-centric heritage management. Key highlights include:

  • Cultural Enrichment: Expands the legacy of Rashtrapati Bhavan as not just a seat of power, but also a space of artistic and environmental significance.

  • Wellness Promotion: By integrating reflexology, soundscapes, and meditative trails, the gardens offer visitors avenues for physical and mental rejuvenation.

  • Sustainability: Emphasizes ecological awareness through naturalistic design and eco-friendly planning.

  • Public Engagement: Reinforces President Murmu’s vision of making Rashtrapati Bhavan more inclusive and accessible to citizens.

These developments mark a new chapter in the story of Amrit Udyan, ensuring that Rashtrapati Bhavan continues to evolve as a living heritage site one that nurtures both the environment and the well-being of the people.
