The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 will be held in February 2026, and this year’s exam will be organized by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. The official website for GATE 2026 has been launched, providing candidates with essential details and updates.

Important Dates For GATE 2026

  • Application Start Date: August 25, 2025 (Monday)

  • Regular Registration Deadline: September 25, 2025 (Thursday)

  • Extended Registration Deadline (with Late Fee): October 6, 2025 (Monday)

  • GATE 2026 Exam Dates: February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026

  • Result Declaration: March 19, 2026

GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates currently in the third year or higher of any undergraduate degree, or those who have already completed degrees in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities from recognized institutions are eligible.

  • Those holding certifications recognized by MoE, AICTE, UGC, or UPSC as equivalent to traditional degrees such as B.E., B.Tech, B.Arch, or B.Planning may also apply.

  • International students or candidates with foreign degrees meeting equivalent educational standards can register for the exam as well.

GATE 2026 Application Fees:

During Regular Period:

  • Rs 1,000 per paper – Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates

  • Rs 2,000 per paper – All other candidates

During Extended Period:

  • Rs 1,500 per paper – Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates

  • Rs 2,500 per paper – All other candidates

About GATE:

GATE is a prestigious national-level examination aimed at evaluating a candidate's understanding of various undergraduate subjects. It serves as a qualifying exam for:

  • Admission to Master’s and Doctoral programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities.

  • Recruitment by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), which consider GATE scores as part of their selection process.

Admission Opportunities Through GATE:

Qualified candidates can use their GATE scores to apply for:

  • M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch. and similar Master’s programs

  • Direct Ph.D. admissions in relevant disciplines at institutions supported by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and other government bodies

Financial Assistance:

  • M.Tech students may receive a monthly stipend of Rs 12,400 for up to 22 months.

  • For Direct Ph.D. candidates (after B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc. with valid GATE scores):

    • Rs 37,000/month for the first two years

    • Rs 42,000/month for the next three years
