Chhattisgarh has set an ambitious economic target: to boost its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) nearly fifteen times by the year 2047. A key element of this strategy is enhancing the service sector’s share in the economy from the current 35% to 50%, aligning it with the state’s established industrial and agricultural strengths to build a resilient and inclusive growth model.

Present Economic Landscape

At present, Chhattisgarh’s economy is valued at around Rupees 5 lakh crore. Of this, the industrial sector contributes approximately 45%, services account for 35%, and agriculture makes up the remaining 20%. The roadmap outlines a vision to raise the state’s GDP to Rupees 75 lakh crore by 2047, with the service sector expected to play a pivotal role in this transformation.

The growth of the service sector will rely on advancements in information technology, logistics, and tourism. The government intends to establish IT parks and attract companies involved in IT-enabled services. Tourism has been identified as a high-potential sector for economic development. Although Chhattisgarh currently ranks 19th in domestic and 28th in international tourist visits, the state aims to climb higher by promoting a wide range of tourism experiences such as eco-tourism, cultural, religious, wellness, adventure, heritage, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions). Incentives like property tax concessions and subsidised utility rates will be offered to encourage private investment. Specific sites across the state are being earmarked for focused tourism development.

Boosting Infrastructure And Connectivity

Robust infrastructure is central to achieving economic transformation. Plans include upgrading Raipur’s airport to handle international flights, including routes to the USA, UK, and Bangladesh. Connectivity improvements also include extending rail links to 10 districts currently lacking them and expanding road networks. Moreover, logistics infrastructure will be upgraded with multi-modal parks, dedicated freight terminals, cold chains, and round-the-clock operations to enhance the efficiency of supply chains.

Focus On Human Development And Inclusion

Human capital development forms a crucial component of the long-term economic agenda. The strategy emphasizes equitable access to education, healthcare, and skill development. These initiatives aim to create a capable and competitive workforce that supports the expanding services and industrial sectors.

Land Access And Industry-Friendly Policies

The state also aims to provide affordable land to attract investment in IT and ITES sectors. Supportive industrial policies are being designed to encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and competitiveness especially in future-ready areas like artificial intelligence, software services, and data analytics.
