The Punjab government has introduced a landmark health initiative Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojana to provide cashless medical treatment up to Rupees 10 lakh per year to every household in the state. The scheme was formally inaugurated on July 8, 2025, at a ceremony in Chandigarh, attended by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
Scheme Coverage And Beneficiaries
The scheme is set to benefit around 65 lakh families, encompassing nearly 3 crore residents of Punjab. It extends universal health coverage to people from all economic and social backgrounds, including government employees, pensioners, farmers, laborers, and business owners.
One of the scheme’s highlights is the issuance of digital health cards to all eligible families. These cards will enable residents to receive cashless treatment at both government and private empanelled hospitals within Punjab.
Additional Benefits For Ayushman Bharat Enrollees
Families already enrolled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme will receive an extra benefit through this program. They will get an additional Rupees 5 lakh health coverage, raising their total annual cover to Rupees 10 lakh, combining central and state provisions.
Implementation Timeline
The official rollout of the scheme is scheduled for October 2, 2025. To ensure wide participation, registration camps will be conducted across the state to facilitate enrollment and distribution of health cards. The scheme replaces the earlier system of color-coded ration cards, ensuring uniformity and ease of access.
Medical Coverage Across 2,000+ Conditions
The scheme provides free treatment for more than 2,000 medical conditions, including major illnesses like cancer, heart disease, kidney failure, and surgical procedures. Both government and private hospitals enlisted under the scheme will provide treatment without any out-of-pocket expense.
Hassle-Free Access To Healthcare
Beneficiaries will need to present only their Aadhaar card and health card at the hospital to receive treatment. The entire system is cashless and paperless, eliminating the need for upfront payments or reimbursement, thereby streamlining access to quality healthcare for all citizens.
