Description
On July 4, 2025, the Rajasthan government introduced the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Poverty-Free Village Scheme, aiming to eliminate poverty and promote self-reliance in rural areas. In its initial phase, the scheme will benefit 5,000 villages, offering financial support to underprivileged families to start small businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Empowering Poor Households Through Financial Assistance
The initiative primarily targets families living below the poverty line (BPL). Each eligible household can receive up to Rupees 1 lakh to establish a small enterprise or generate employment. Additionally, women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) can avail ?15,000 per family to enhance their earnings. The scheme is designed to help individuals become financially independent and reduce reliance on state assistance.
Incentives For Families Who Escaped Poverty
To acknowledge and encourage families who have already lifted themselves out of poverty, the government will grant a reward of ?21,000, which will be directly credited to their verified bank accounts. So far, 17,891 of the 22,400 verified families have been approved for this incentive. These households will also be issued ‘Atmanirbhar Parivar Cards’ as a symbol of their self-sufficiency.
Identifying Needy And Creating Village-Level Action Plans
Using historical 2002 BPL records and fresh surveys, authorities have identified 30,631 BPL families in 5,002 villages. In addition, over 61,000 new applications have been submitted by households currently facing economic hardship. The government is now preparing customised development plans for each village, aiming to connect beneficiaries with existing welfare schemes related to skill development, employment opportunities, and financial aid.
