Over the next 25 years, Sadhu painstakingly transported building materials by bicycle and constructed what is now known as the Temple in the Sea.

Now called the Sewdass Sadhu Shiva Mandir, the temple stands as a spiritual and architectural marvel. This connection mirrors India’s Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai. Sewdass Sadhu’s unwavering commitment is often likened to that of Dashrath Manjhi, the "Mountain Man" of Bihar who famously carved a path through a mountain using hand tools over 22 years. Their stories are testaments to the power of individual determination.

In a tribute to the Girmitiya heritage, the Indian government has extended Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) privileges to the sixth generation of Indian-origin families in Trinidad and Tobago.
