In a major step towards international outreach, the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has launched its first overseas Representative Office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This move signifies a pivotal moment in SAIL’s journey to position itself as a competitive player on the global steel stage.
The official opening ceremony in Dubai witnessed the presence of several distinguished dignitaries including Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, India’s Consul General in Dubai, Shri Satish Kumar Sivan, SAIL Chairman Shri Amarendu Prakash, NMDC CMD Shri Amitava Mukherjee, and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Steel Shri V.K. Tripathi, along with senior officials from SAIL, NMDC, MECON, and the Ministry of Steel.
Dubai: A Strategic Choice
SAIL's decision to establish its first international office in Dubai is a calculated one. As a prominent global trade and logistics hub, Dubai offers:
Direct access to Middle East and North African (MENA) markets
Business-friendly regulations and world-class infrastructure
Proximity to key maritime routes and emerging steel-consuming economies
This new office is expected to strengthen SAIL’s export potential, promote international trade partnerships, and enhance India’s visibility in the global steel market.
Supporting India Steel Vision 2030
The Dubai initiative aligns with the Indian government’s National Steel Policy, which aims to increase the country’s steel production capacity to 300 million tonnes by 2030. As a leading public sector steel producer with a capacity exceeding 20 million tonnes annually, SAIL is a major contributor to this vision.
Role Of Dubai Office
SAIL’s overseas office will serve several critical functions, including:
Facilitating direct engagement with international buyers
Improving export performance across the Gulf and African regions
Enhancing market intelligence and response capabilities
Identifying new business opportunities in infrastructure and industry
This move is part of SAIL’s broader strategy to modernize operations, boost global competitiveness, and expand its footprint beyond domestic boundaries.
Enhancing India-UAE Trade Ties
SAIL’s establishment in Dubai also reflects the deepening economic relationship between India and the UAE. With steel being vital to infrastructure growth, the office will act as a bridge to facilitate closer collaboration, exchange of expertise, and mutual development in the sector.
