In a significant event aimed at bolstering education and healthcare in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, visited Gorakhpur on a special occasion to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several infrastructure projects at Mahayogi Gorakhnath University.
Inauguration Of Key Facilities To Boost Education And Health
During her visit, President Murmu formally inaugurated a state-of-the-art auditorium, a new academic block, and a specialized Panchkarma Kendra that will offer traditional Ayurvedic therapies. In addition to these openings, she also laid the foundation stone for a new girls’ hostel, a project seen as a major step toward promoting women’s access to higher education in the region.
Merging Modern Medicine With Traditional Healing
In her address, the President commended the University’s integrated approach to medical education, combining Allopathy (modern medicine) with Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine). She highlighted the importance of this dual system in delivering comprehensive healthcare and preparing future medical professionals who understand both scientific and traditional approaches to healing.
She also noted the progress of the Shri Gorakshanath Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, where a massive 1800-bed hospital is under development. This hospital is poised to significantly improve healthcare infrastructure and services in the Purvanchal region.
Strengthening Higher Education Through NEP 2020
President Murmu emphasized the role of private universities in supporting the goals outlined under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly in promoting multi-disciplinary learning, skill development, and public welfare. She praised Mahayogi Gorakhnath University for adopting the spirit of NEP by delivering quality, job-oriented education in a relatively short period since its inception.
Notably, this is the first private university established in Gorakhpur and its surrounding areas. In just four years, it has emerged as a prominent centre for academic excellence and professional development in the region.
Empowering Women Through Education Infrastructure
One of the key highlights of the President’s visit was the foundation laying ceremony of the new Girls’ Hostel. She underscored the importance of such infrastructure in enabling more female students to pursue higher education, especially those from rural and underserved backgrounds.
President Murmu remarked that education is the most effective tool for women’s empowerment, and providing safe and supportive residential facilities is essential to help more girls complete their studies. She congratulated the university for taking a bold step in promoting gender equality and inclusivity in education.

She described this strategy as “inclusive growth”, ensuring that even the most remote and underdeveloped communities benefit from national development. Institutions like Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, she said, are instrumental in nurturing not only well-educated professionals but also responsible, value-driven citizens who will contribute meaningfully to society.
