Description
The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has rolled out SPREE 2025 (Scheme for Promoting Registration of Employers and Employees), a new initiative aimed at widening the scope of social security under the ESI Act. Approved during the 196th meeting of ESIC held in Shimla, the scheme will be in effect from July 1 to December 31, 2025.
About SPREE 2025
SPREE 2025 seeks to make it easier for employers and workers especially those who are unregistered or in informal roles to come under the ESI umbrella. Through this initiative, ESIC is offering a one-time relaxation that allows new registrations without triggering retrospective inspections or claims for past dues.
Key Highlights Of SPREE 2025
Employers can digitally register their units and employees via the ESIC portal and other official platforms.
The registration will be effective from the date declared by the employer, not backdated.
No contributions or benefits will apply for the period prior to registration, eliminating concerns over penalties or legal action.
The scheme covers all kinds of workers, including contractual and temporary staff.
Boosting Voluntary Participation
By removing the fear of retrospective liability and simplifying digital registration, SPREE 2025 encourages voluntary compliance. Previously, non-compliance could lead to inspections, legal proceedings, and demands for back payments. Now, employers have a window to regularize their workforce without fear of punitive action.
Broader Social Security Reach
