In a groundbreaking development in genetic archaeology, researchers have successfully decoded the oldest known DNA from ancient Egypt. The genome, extracted from remains dated to approximately 4,500 to 4,800 years ago, provides unprecedented insight into the population structure of Egypt during the Old Kingdom period. Genetic analysis revealed that approximately 78% of the individual's DNA is traced to ancient North African populations, particularly those from Neolithic Morocco. The remaining 22% reflects ancestry linked to early agricultural communities from the Fertile Crescent, encompassing parts of modern-day Iraq, Syria, and Iran. This admixture points to early contact and genetic exchange between these ancient civilizations long before the era of pyramid construction.
