In a major step towards strengthening agricultural development across the Global South, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), in collaboration with the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), has launched a new Centre of Excellence (CoE). This initiative is designed to support sustainable agricultural transformation in developing nations through South-South cooperation, focusing on knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and capacity building.
About ICRISAT: Driving Innovation In Dryland Agriculture
Founded on 28 March 1972, ICRISAT was established under a Memorandum of Agreement between the Government of India and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). It is a non-profit, non-political, international research institute dedicated to addressing food security and poverty alleviation in the semi-arid tropics of Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

The institute’s Tropical Legumes Project has notably improved food security in 13 countries across sub-Saharan Africa, earning ICRISAT the prestigious Africa Food Prize in 2021.
