Description
As part of the Government of India’s flagship Swachh Bharat Mission, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science & Technology actively participated in Swachhata Pakhwada 2025, held from May 1 to May 15. During this two-week campaign, DBT carried out 188 diverse activities spanning its headquarters in New Delhi, various autonomous institutions (AIs), and public sector undertakings (PSUs). The initiative was focused on fostering cleanliness, public health, and environmental sustainability, while promoting community engagement and awareness about hygiene and responsible living.

This year's observation of Swachhata Pakhwada by DBT stood out for its scale, innovative implementation, and the scientific integration of waste management and health awareness. From technology-enabled waste solutions to environmental education, the campaign aligned with the national goal of building a cleaner, greener, and healthier India.
Key Highlights And Participation
Pledge Ceremony: The fortnight began with a solemn pledge on May 1, 2025, at the CGO Complex, New Delhi, led by the DBT Secretary. Officials, scientists, and staff members pledged their commitment to cleanliness and sustainable practices.

Installed e-waste disposal units
Set up sanitary napkin incinerators
Deployed waste shredding machines to manage solid waste more efficiently

Organized free health check-ups
Conducted training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR
Hosted sessions on plastic pollution, mental well-being, and clean living habits
Community and Outreach Programs
Cleanliness drives at social institutions like old-age homes and the National Association for the Blind
Tree plantation drives to improve green cover
Community runs and nature walks to promote fitness and environmental care
Ladies’ restrooms inaugurated to improve workplace sanitation
Educational and Cultural Engagement
Cleanliness campaigns in underprivileged areas and slums
Nukkad Nataks (street plays) performed by students to educate communities
Competitions such as poster making and painting focused on environmental themes
Monitoring And Recognition
To ensure effectiveness, a review committee tracked the progress of the campaign. Regular meetings encouraged consistent participation, and the top three performing offices were honored with awards, which were distributed by the Joint Secretary (Admin), DBT, in recognition of their outstanding contributions.
