India showcased an outstanding performance at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships held in Gumi, South Korea, from May 27 to 31. The Indian contingent secured a total of 24 medals, including 8 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze, finishing second overall behind China. More than 60 athletes represented India across 30 events, demonstrating strong capabilities particularly in middle-distance races, relay events, and hurdles.

India’s remarkable medal tally and several record-breaking performances have captured widespread attention. Many athletes successfully defended their titles, and the championships also served as an important platform for Indian athletes aiming to qualify for the Paris 2026 Olympics.

Silver Medalists

  • Rupal Chaudhary (400m), Pooja Singh (1500m), and Parul Chaudhary (3000m steeplechase and 5000m) earned silver medals.

  • Tejaswin Shankar (decathlon) and Praveen Chithravel (triple jump) also bagged silver.

  • Teams in the women’s 4x100m relay and men’s 4x400m relay finished second.

  • Ancy Sojan (long jump) and Sachin Yadav (javelin) contributed silver medals.

Bronze Medalists

  • Vithya Ramraj (400m hurdles), Animesh Kujur (200m), Shaili Singh (long jump), and Pooja Singh (800m) won bronze.

  • Yoonus Shah (1500m) and Servin Sebastian (20km walk) also added to the tally with bronze medals.

Records And Significance

Parul Chaudhary and Animesh Kujur set new national records in the steeplechase and 200m, respectively. Subha Venkatesan was the sole member returning from the 2023 gold-winning mixed relay team, underscoring the team’s continuity. India’s stronghold in relay events continued, reaffirming its position as a leading athletics nation in Asia. The championships also provided vital experience and confidence ahead of the Paris 2026 Olympics.
