The Department of Posts has unveiled a transformative digital initiative called DHRUVA, which stands for Digital Hub for Reference and Unique Virtual Address. This new policy lays the groundwork for a national-level Digital Address Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) aimed at revolutionizing the way addresses are managed and shared in India.
Know About DHRUVA
Developed as a strategic platform, DHRUVA introduces a standardized, geo-tagged, and interoperable digital address ecosystem. It simplifies address-based services and enables secure, real-time, and consent-driven data exchange between citizens, government agencies, and private entities.
Core Features Of DHRUVA
Address-as-a-Service (AaaS) - DHRUVA introduces the concept of AaaS, which enables users to control, manage, and share their digital address securely for multiple use cases, including public service delivery, commerce, and governance.
Interoperability - Designed to work across multiple systems, DHRUVA facilitates seamless integration among various address databases in both the public and private sectors.
Standardization - The platform promotes uniform address formats and includes geolocation tagging to ensure precision and consistency.
Privacy and Consent - Address data sharing is done with the user's explicit consent, ensuring transparency and control over how and with whom information is shared.

Connection With DIGIPIN
The DHRUVA framework builds on the earlier introduction of DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number), also launched by the Department of Posts. Developed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and ISRO's NRSC, DIGIPIN offers a geo-coded, open-source address grid.
Each grid measures approximately 4m x 4m and is identified with a unique 10-character alphanumeric code based on geographical coordinates. This system enhances accuracy for services like emergency response, logistics, and public service delivery.
