The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) launched its new outreach initiative, Niveshak Shivir, on June 1, 2025, in Pune. This pilot programme aims to improve investor outreach and support by enabling direct interaction between investors, companies, and Registrars and Transfer Agents (RTAs). The effort is part of IEPFA’s larger mission to tackle the persistent issue of unclaimed shares and dividends in India.
Purpose And Goals Of Niveshak Shivir
The primary goal of Niveshak Shivir is to assist investors in reclaiming their unclaimed shares and dividends, many of which have remained idle for over six years. The initiative is designed to offer immediate assistance for completing KYC updates, adding nominees, and resolving outstanding claims pending with IEPFA. This hands-on support is expected to simplify the recovery process and reduce delays.
How the Initiative Works
During these camps, dedicated kiosks are set up and manned by representatives from participating companies and RTAs. These kiosks allow investors to seek face-to-face assistance, bypassing middlemen and improving the transparency and speed of issue resolution. This structure ensures direct engagement and faster grievance redressal.
The Scale Of Unclaimed Investments
IEPFA estimates that over Rupees 1 lakh crore worth of shares, covering around 1.1 billion units, are lying unclaimed. Additionally, unclaimed dividends amount to nearly Rupees 6,000 crore. These figures underline the urgent need for platforms like Niveshak Shivir that focus on retrieving such assets and ensuring they reach the rightful owners.
Expansion Plans
Following the Pune launch, IEPFA plans to expand the Niveshak Shivir model to other major cities, especially where large volumes of unclaimed investments are located. The aim is to build wider awareness and provide on-ground support to investors throughout the country.
Upcoming Tech Integration
To further improve the claims process, IEPFA will introduce a centralised digital portal by August 2025. This platform will offer real-time claim tracking, direct access to companies, and automated data verification through PAN, bank, and depository integrations. The portal is expected to make the process faster, more secure, and user-friendly.
