Caused Admission Portal Crash

Officials revealed that on May 21, the portal faced a major system crash due to approximately 1.5 million users logging in simultaneously, causing anxiety among applicants and guardians. The admission process was temporarily halted and later revised based on public feedback.

According to Mahesh Palkar, Director (Projects), School Education Department, the technical problems have since been fixed, ensuring a smoother experience going forward.

New Academic Guidelines And Policy Updates

To streamline the academic calendar, the Maharashtra government has permitted junior colleges to begin the academic year from July 1, provided at least 50% of seats are filled. Colleges that fail to meet this target must start by August 11.

A significant policy change involves the in-house quota, which has been reduced from 20% to 10%. Eligibility is now strictly limited to students from secondary schools that operate within the same premises and under the same management as the corresponding junior college.

This new quota policy has raised concerns, especially among institutions in urban areas like Mumbai, where such shared infrastructure is uncommon. Administrators fear this change could disadvantage students who have progressed through the same school system but are now ineligible for in-house reservations.
