Description
Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand has launched its first community radio station, Panchshul Pulse, aimed at serving the needs of border communities by blending local culture, weather updates, and village narratives. The station was inaugurated by Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command. Its motto, “Hill se Dil Tak,” reflects its mission to connect the hearts of people living in the hills.
Background And Purpose
Panchshul Pulse is a project initiated by the Indian Army in line with the Government of India’s Vibrant Villages Programme, which focuses on improving connectivity and development in border regions. The station derives its name from the nearby Panchshul mountain range, symbolizing the strength and endurance of the local population.
Community Engagement
This radio station serves as a vital communication link among the Indian Army, local administration, and residents. It seeks to foster harmony and goodwill within the border communities. Programming will incorporate local dialects and address topics relevant to the people of the area.
Programming And Content
The station’s content lineup includes interviews with villagers, youth, and women leaders, alongside cultural programs showcasing Kumaoni traditions, folk music, and popular Bollywood tracks. It also provides educational programming, health awareness campaigns, and tips on disaster preparedness.
Weather And Safety Information
Panchshul Pulse will play a crucial role in delivering timely information, keeping residents and visitors updated on weather conditions, road safety, and community issues. By providing reliable updates, the station aims to counter misinformation and ensure locals are well-informed.
Operation Sadbhawana
The radio station operates under Operation Sadbhawana, which promotes peace and goodwill in border areas. Station manager Manish Singhal highlighted the importance of honoring local heroes such as soldiers and cultural activists. Panchshul Pulse will broadcast across a 12 km radius, reaching remote villages and communities.
Call To Action
Lt Gen Sengupta urged the local population to actively support Panchshul Pulse, believing the station can become the heart of the border region. Engaging with its programming will help preserve the unique culture of the area while strengthening the connection between the community and the Indian Army.
