Trained at the Delhi Flying Club, he joined the Royal Indian Air Force in 1936. During the war, he undertook several high-risk missions, including critical supply drops to Soviet forces fighting in the Battle of Stalingrad. By striking at the weaker, poorly equipped Axis flanks, the Soviets successfully encircled over 300,000 German troops, cutting off their supply lines and forcing a surrender on February 2, 1943.
