Description
AI Kiran is a national initiative launched to bridge the gender gap and promote women's leadership in the rapidly expanding field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India. With India's AI market poised to grow to $17 billion by 2027, this movement is a crucial step toward ensuring inclusive growth in the sector. The initiative is jointly led by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, Verix (a blockchain-based credentialing platform), and INK Women.
The Need For AI Kiran
While more women are entering STEM education, their representation in AI jobs remains disproportionately low:
Only 33% at junior levels in Generative AI (GenAI) roles.
Merely 19% occupy senior positions.
At leadership levels (Head/Director), there are 65% more men than women in GenAI roles (BCG & LinkedIn reports).
These gaps highlight the need for diverse leadership to counter algorithmic bias and ensure AI systems benefit all sections of society. With India's AI sector expected to contribute $1 trillion to the economy by 2035, inclusive AI leadership is no longer optional it's essential.

Empower women innovators, researchers, and leaders in AI and Machine Learning.
Foster a supportive and inclusive ecosystem that nurtures women in tech.
Create funding and mentorship opportunities to help women advance in AI careers.
Provide global exposure, leadership programs, and networking opportunities.
Initially, AI Kiran celebrates over 250 women leaders across industries such as education, healthcare, sustainability, and technology.
Spotlighting Women Innovators
AI Kiran places a spotlight on women shaping the AI landscape, recognizing their contributions in diverse sectors. This recognition is designed to inspire future generations of female technologists and innovators.
A Collaborative Effort
AI Kiran emphasizes collaboration between government bodies, industry partners, and civil society to open up pathways for women to access critical resources. The initiative will also be hosted on the Manthan Platform to reach a broader audience, including students, professionals, and researchers.
Future Plans
From April 21 to June 5, AI Kiran will continue to engage with partners to build support networks and funding channels for honorees, ensuring their sustained growth and success in AI.
