Description
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has introduced a new initiative named ‘Electric Vehicle Solutions led by Startups (EVolutionS)’, aimed at accelerating the domestic production of electric vehicle (EV) components in India. This programme is designed to assist startups in scaling their prototypes into market-ready products, reducing the country's dependence on imported parts and materials.
Key Goals Of EVolutionS Programme
The initiative focuses on facilitating pilot testing, validation, and demonstration of EV components developed by Indian startups. It seeks to forge industry linkages that will support the swift deployment of electric mobility solutions across the country. EVolutionS targets the full spectrum of electric mobility from two- and three-wheelers to four-wheelers, electric buses, and charging infrastructure.
Funding Provisions And Eligibility
Startups with proven capabilities in designing indigenous EV parts and systems will be eligible for financial support. Each selected startup may receive up to ?50 lakh in funding, with Rupees 30 lakh provided through equity-linked instruments. The financial aid aims to help these ventures advance their technologies from TRL 3–4 (early development) to TRL 6–8 (pre-commercial and near-market stages).
Strategic Importance
India’s electric vehicle industry is currently constrained by its reliance on imported components. EVolutionS aims to develop a self-reliant supply chain by encouraging innovation within the country. This move is expected to foster local manufacturing and enhance the competitiveness of Indian startups in the EV space.
Collaborative Framework
The programme is being implemented in association with the Ministry of Heavy Industry and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA). This collaboration brings together policy, manufacturing expertise, and innovation to create a strong foundation for India’s electric mobility ecosystem.

EVolutionS spans a wide range of EV-related components, targeting systems used in:
Electric two-, three-, and four-wheelers
E-rickshaws and e-carts
Electric buses (e-buses)
Public charging stations and infrastructure
By supporting these critical areas, the programme aims to contribute significantly to the growth and sustainability of India’s EV infrastructure.
