Description
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has launched an upgraded version of its Microdata Portal, introduced during the recent Conference of State Government Ministers. This newly revamped platform is designed to significantly improve user access and engagement with statistical data. By incorporating advanced technologies, the portal aims to modernize the country’s Official Statistical System. It acts as a comprehensive hub for datasets sourced from national-level surveys and economic censuses.
Key Objectives
The updated portal addresses the shortcomings of the previous version, particularly its technological limitations. Its primary goal is to offer seamless access to a broad array of statistical data, thereby supporting more effective planning and policy formulation across different tiers of government. Additionally, the portal is intended to improve the efficiency and output of field data collectors and analysts.
Introduction Of AI/ML-Powered NIC Classification Tool
As part of the upgrade, MoSPI also launched a tool powered by Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. This innovative tool aids in the use of the National Industrial Classification (NIC) for generating official statistics. Leveraging natural language processing (NLP), users can input free-text queries, after which the system suggests the top five relevant NIC codes. This feature simplifies the classification process, reduces manual work, and enhances accuracy.
Partnership With World Bank
The redevelopment of the Microdata Portal was achieved in partnership with the World Bank’s Technology Team. This collaboration enabled the adoption of a modern, scalable, and secure technology infrastructure. The platform also features a responsive design, ensuring accessibility across various devices and platforms.
Launch Of National Statistical System Training Academy Website
Coinciding with the portal launch, MoSPI also introduced the website of the National Statistical System Training Academy. This platform is designed to consolidate all training and capacity-building resources in one place. It allows users to easily access learning materials, course updates, and other relevant content aimed at strengthening statistical capabilities across the board.
