Description

The Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, has recently introduced PM-YUVA 3.0 – the Prime Minister's Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors. This initiative is designed to support and mentor young, aspiring authors under 30 years of age, fostering a culture of reading, writing, and book creation across India.

Overview Of PM-YUVA 3.0

PM-YUVA 3.0 aims to nurture a new generation of writers who will explore various aspects of India, from its rich history to its modern achievements and future potential. The scheme encourages young authors to engage with themes that highlight India's past, present, and future contributions to global knowledge and society. These themes include:

  • The Contribution of the Indian Diaspora to Nation Building

  • The Indian Knowledge System

  • Makers of Modern India (1950-2025)

The scheme provides an opportunity for the youth to express their views on India’s contributions across various fields, both in ancient and contemporary times.

Implementation And Mentorship

The National Book Trust (NBT), India, under the Ministry of Education, will serve as the implementing agency. NBT will oversee the mentorship program, ensuring that young authors receive guidance and support through well-structured stages.

Features Of PM-YUVA 3.0

  • Application Process - Aspiring authors must submit a book proposal of 10,000 words, which includes a synopsis (2000-3000 words), a chapter plan, two to three sample chapters (7000-8000 words), and a bibliography.

  • Selection Process - A committee formed by NBT will select 50 authors for the mentorship program.

  • Eligibility - Those who have participated in PM-YUVA 1.0 or 2.0 are not eligible for this edition of the scheme.

  • Mentorship Activities - Selected authors will have the opportunity to work closely with renowned writers, attend literary festivals, and contribute to India’s literary landscape with works that celebrate its heritage and progress.

Benefits

  • Financial Support - Each selected author will receive a scholarship of ?50,000 per month for six months (?3 lakh in total) during the mentorship phase.

  • Royalty - Authors will receive a 10% royalty from the sales of their books once published by NBT.

  • Cultural Promotion - The books created under this program will be published by NBT and translated into other Indian languages, promoting cultural exchange and the "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat" initiative.

This scheme is an excellent platform for young authors to gain exposure, contribute to national discourse, and promote the culture of reading and writing in India.
