Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently announced the launch of a dedicated mobile app for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS), aimed at simplifying the registration process for the scheme's second round. The new app is designed to overcome the challenges posed by limited computer access, offering a more accessible and user-friendly platform for applicants via mobile technology.
About PM Internship Scheme
The PMIS was launched with the goal of providing greater employment opportunities for young individuals. It offers valuable professional experience and training in various sectors, with the ambition of providing internships to 10 million people over the next five years. Participants in the scheme will receive a monthly stipend of Rupees 5,000, along with a one-time Rupees 6,000 grant to cover incidental expenses.
Facilitation Centre In Kolkata
A facilitation centre has been set up in Kolkata through a collaboration between the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). This centre will support and guide candidates throughout the application process. CII operates 47 model career centres, which will now include PMIS cells to expand outreach and assist applicants.
Information, Education, And Communication (IEC) Events
In an effort to improve outreach, the MCA plans to conduct over 70 Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) events across the country. These events will help raise awareness about the PMIS and ensure potential interns have all the necessary information about available opportunities.
Targets
The first round of the PMIS saw 28,141 candidates accept internship offers. In the second round, the scheme aims to offer more than 100,000 internships across over 300 companies. The target for the financial year 2025 is to provide 1.25 lakh internships.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates aged between 21 and 24 years are eligible to apply for the internship. Applicants must have completed their 10th and 12th grades or hold a UG degree, ITI, or other technical qualifications. This broad eligibility ensures that a wide range of young people can participate in the scheme.
