The initial rear fuselage for the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk1A, produced by the private Indian company Alpha Tocol Engineering Services Private Limited, has been handed over to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

About Tejas LCA Mk1A

The Tejas LCA Mk1A is an advanced version of India’s homegrown Light Combat Aircraft, the Tejas, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This upgraded model features over 40 improvements compared to the earlier Tejas Mk1, significantly boosting its combat effectiveness and operational capabilities.

Key enhancements in the Mk1A version include advanced avionics systems, including the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, such as the Israeli EL/M-2052 AESA Radar and the indigenously developed Uttam AESA Radar. The aircraft also integrates an upgraded Digital Fly-by-Wire Flight Control Computer (DFCC Mk1A), a Unified Electronic Warfare Suite (UEWS), and an externally mounted Advanced Self Protection Jammer pod for improved survivability during missions.

The Tejas Mk1A is equipped with nine hardpoints, which enable it to carry a diverse array of weapons, including Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles, Air-to-Air/Ground missiles, and Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missiles (ASRAAM).

It was inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF) in July 2016. The Tejas comes in three variants: the Tejas Mk1, Tejas Mk1A, and a trainer model.

The primary objective of the Tejas LCA program is to replace the ageing fleet of MiG fighter jets currently in service with the Indian Air Force, offering a more modern and indigenous alternative.
