Description
The government has launched three Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Delhi, focusing on comprehensive healthcare and disease prevention. This initiative aims to provide a broad spectrum of medical services, ensuring accessible, holistic care for the community.
About Ayushman Arogya Mandir
The Ayushman Arogya Mandir is a strategic shift from traditional selective healthcare to a more inclusive model. It offers a wide range of services, including preventive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative care.
This initiative has two core components, designed to work hand-in-hand:
Comprehensive Primary Healthcare - The first component focuses on creating 1,50,000 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, aimed at providing universal, free healthcare with an emphasis on wellness and preventive measures. These centres aim to deliver essential services closer to local communities.
Health Insurance Coverage - The second component is the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), which offers health insurance coverage of Rupees 5 lakh per year to more than 10 crore economically vulnerable families, covering secondary and tertiary healthcare needs.
Services Provided At Ayushman Arogya Mandirs
These centres offer a wide range of services, including preventive care, health promotion, curative treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care. The goal is to ensure comprehensive health management for all segments of society.
As of January 31, 2025, a total of 1,76,141 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been established across India, contributing significantly to the country's healthcare infrastructure.
Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY
Ayushman Bharat is the flagship healthcare scheme of the Government of India, designed in line with the National Health Policy of 2017 to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). It is the world’s largest health assurance programme, offering Rupees 5 lakh per family per year for hospitalization under secondary and tertiary care.
The programme targets over 12 crore poor and vulnerable families (approximately 55 crore beneficiaries), representing the bottom 40% of India’s population, aiming to reduce the financial burden of medical treatments and ensure access to quality healthcare.
