• Minimize operational delays through uniform port procedures

• Lower logistics costs by optimizing workflows and removing redundancies

Sagar Ankalan: Logistics Port Performance Index (LPPI) 2023-24

Another significant initiative is the Sagar Ankalan project, featuring the Logistics Port Performance Index (LPPI) for FY 2023-24. This index is designed to assess port performance and promote operational efficiency by evaluating essential performance metrics such as:

• Cargo handling efficiency

• Port turnaround times

• Berth idle times

The LPPI will offer valuable insights to help optimize logistics and enhance trade connectivity, contributing to India’s rising position in global rankings. Recently, India advanced to 22nd place in the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index (LPI) for “International Shipments,” reflecting the country’s fast progress in maritime logistics.

Bharat Global Ports Consortium

Sonowal also launched the Bharat Global Ports Consortium, a collaborative initiative aimed at expanding India’s maritime reach. The consortium brings together stakeholders from port operations, finance, and infrastructure development with the following objectives:

• Supporting port modernization and expansion

• Enhancing logistics networks to boost exports

• Attracting investment for port infrastructure

MAITRI App: Revolutionizing International Trade With AI and Blockchain

The launch of the MAITRI App (Master Application for International Trade and Regulatory Interface) marks another significant advancement. This digital platform is designed to streamline and expedite international trade through the use of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology. The app will:

• Create a Virtual Trade Corridor (VTC) between India and the UAE

• Expand to other trade regions, including BIMSTEC and ASEAN

• Accelerate trade processing by optimizing trade flows

The MAITRI App promises to reduce documentation complexities, making cross-border trade more seamless, efficient, and transparent.

India Maritime Week

To further highlight India’s growing influence in the maritime sector, Sonowal announced the India Maritime Week, which will take place from October 27 to 31 in Mumbai. This major event is expected to attract participants from over 100 countries and around 100,000 delegates. Key highlights of the event include:

• The 4th edition of the Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS)

• The 2nd edition of Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue
