The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) recently celebrated the sixth anniversary of its SWAYATT initiative in New Delhi, which aims to promote the participation of women-led enterprises, youth, and startups in public procurement.
About SWAYATT Initiative
Launched on February 19, 2019, the SWAYATT initiative was designed to foster greater involvement of women entrepreneurs and young businesses in government procurement.
SWAYATT is part of GeM's broader commitment to enhancing business ease and creating direct market connections for startups, women entrepreneurs, Micro & Small Enterprises (MSEs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and youth, especially those from underrepresented communities.
It aligns with GeM's foundational goal of promoting social inclusion within public procurement processes.
Government e-Marketplace (GeM)
GeM, established in 2016, is an online platform designed to simplify the procurement of goods and services by government departments, ministries, and public sector undertakings (PSUs).
The platform is recognized as the National Procurement Portal of India and is managed by the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (Ministry of Commerce and Industry), with technical support from the National e-Governance Division (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology).
It operates as a completely paperless, cashless, and system-driven marketplace, enabling efficient procurement of commonly used goods and services with minimal human interaction.
