Mission Components

• The PUNCH mission will consist of four suitcase-sized satellites, each weighing around 64 kg, placed in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

• It will carry three Wide Field Imagers (WFI) and one Narrow Field Imager on board. These cameras will capture images every four minutes, using various polarising filters. Additionally, they will take an unpolarised image every eight minutes.

• The PUNCH mission is the first to utilize the polarisation of light to study the solar corona and solar wind, providing 3D images of the solar atmosphere.

• It aims to enhance space weather predictions, helping to understand the potential effects on Earth and future space exploration.

• By measuring polarised light with special filters, the mission will allow scientists to investigate the inner solar system more effectively.
