The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that starting from the academic year 2026, it will conduct board exams for Class 10 twice a year as part of a reformed curriculum. The new system provides flexibility, allowing students to choose whether to appear for both exams. If students are dissatisfied with their performance or scores in the first attempt, they will have another chance within the same academic year.
This reform is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to reduce exam-related stress, offering students an opportunity to improve their scores for the final result.
CBSE Class 10 students will now have the option to appear for one of the two exams, with a designated gap between the two, ensuring ample time for preparation. This decision was made following a high-level meeting led by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which also included senior officials from the Ministry of Education and CBSE. The initiative aims to alleviate the stress students often experience during exams. The draft plan for this change is expected to be released to the public soon.
The government emphasizes the importance of creating a stress-free learning environment, and this reform is another step toward implementing NEP provisions to reduce exam-related pressures on students.
In addition, CBSE plans to introduce a global curriculum for 260 foreign schools affiliated with CBSE starting in the 2026-27 academic year. This new curriculum will align with international school standards and support students in adapting to the updated syllabus more effectively.
These changes are intended to prioritize the mental well-being of students and alleviate the pressures they face during the exam season.
