Description
The Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare recently provided an update to the Lok Sabha on the restructured National Bamboo Mission.
About Restructured National Bamboo Mission
Launched as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme in 2018-19, the restructured National Bamboo Mission aims to promote the cultivation of bamboo on non-forest land. It supports both public and private sectors by providing assistance for bamboo propagation, treatment, market establishment, incubation centers, value-added product development, processing, and the development of tools and equipment.
Funding Pattern
The scheme follows a funding distribution of 60:40 between the Centre and State Governments for most states, except for the North Eastern and Hilly regions, where it is 90:10. Union Territories, Bamboo Technology Support Groups (BTSGs), and national-level agencies receive 100% funding.
Key Objectives
To enhance the availability of high-quality planting materials and expand bamboo cultivation areas.
To improve post-harvest management, treatment processes, preservation, market infrastructure, product development, and promote skill development.
To reduce the country's reliance on the import of bamboo and related products.
Implementation
The mission is executed through state nodal departments designated by the respective State or Union Territory governments.
