The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship recently launched the Swavalambini programme to empower female students in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. This initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) through the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) in collaboration with NITI Aayog, aims to equip women with the entrepreneurial skills, resources, and mentorship needed to thrive in their business ventures.
The programme targets female students from selected Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the region, helping them develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Successful participants who establish their ventures will be recognized and rewarded, with their success stories inspiring others to follow in their footsteps. The initiative lays out a clear framework for nurturing and scaling women-led businesses in India.
The Swavalambini programme offers structured training, beginning with the Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP), which introduces 600 female students to entrepreneurship as a promising career option. For 300 selected students, the Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) provides intensive 40-hour training covering essential business topics such as training and skill development, access to finance, market linkages, legal and compliance support, business services, and networking opportunities.
Following the training, participants will receive six months of mentorship and guidance to help turn their ideas into sustainable business ventures.
