Description
The PM-JANMAN package, launched in November 2023, is a government initiative designed to improve the living conditions of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in India. The program aims to ensure that essential services such as housing, water, and roads are provided to 100% of PVTG habitations. The initiative focuses on addressing the socio-economic issues faced by 75 PVTG communities across 18 states and one Union Territory.
Overview Of PM-JANMAN Package
The PM-JANMAN package was officially launched on November 15, 2023, aligning with Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. This initiative is part of the broader Pradhan Mantri-PVTG Development Mission, which was announced in the 2022-23 Union Budget. With a budget allocation of Rupees 24,104 crore, the central government has committed Rupees 15,336 crore to the scheme.
Key Objectives
The main goal of the PM-JANMAN package is to enhance the socio-economic conditions of PVTGs through a holistic development approach. The initiative focuses on improving access to vital services like housing, drinking water, healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities for these communities.
Core Components Of Scheme
The PM-JANMAN package encompasses 11 key interventions, including:
Housing - Providing homes through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin.
Water Supply - Ensuring piped water access under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Healthcare - Deploying mobile medical units as part of the National Health Mission.
Education and Childcare - Establishing hostels and Anganwadi Centres.
Electrification - Facilitating household electrification using solar energy solutions.
Implementation And Progress
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is leading the implementation of the scheme, in partnership with nine other ministries and state governments. Initially, the program faced delays due to data entry issues on the PM-GatiShakti portal. However, recent clarifications have accelerated the process, and by November 2024, over 4 lakh homes had been sanctioned.
Future Plans
The PM-JANMAN package will continue until 2025-26, with the aim of ensuring comprehensive development across critical sectors, improving the overall quality of life for PVTG communities. The government will focus on timely execution and the efficient use of resources.
Budget And Utilisation
The Rupees 24,104 crore budget for the PM-JANMAN package will be distributed across various ministries to fund housing, healthcare, education, and infrastructure projects specifically targeting PVTGs.
